Aren’t we all in varying degrees, captives in our own personal prisons, bound by our limiting habits?
— Ruthy Alon

Mayoli is named after my beloved daughters, Maya and Olivia; they embody so many of my dreams and desires for the future.

Why do some conditions keep coming back? Sometimes the difficulty is still there, even after surgery, or appears in another place.

In many cases, treating the troubled joint or the structure is not enough.

You also have to change the way you use your body. You have to re-educate and re-pattern yourself to move in a healthier way.

In treating the physical condition, I work with you to go beyond your muscles and joints, and include your body image, how you perceive yourself, your sense of self, habitual posture, and movement patterns.

My unique approach integrates several different modalities, learned during more than thirty years of studying, exploring, teaching, and rehabilitating the body and its movements.

As a Physical Therapist, I have the medical background to treat your condition.

Physical Therapy is usually limited to treating body parts; however, the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education gives me the means to integrate the whole body and re-pattern the mind-body, completing the PT approach.

My specialization in pelvic health adds another layer to my approach by including the organs in the picture. Fear and anxiety deeply influence the health of this region, which makes the mind-body connection particularly important.

My experience with dance, yoga and Pilates adds further depth and richness to my proprietary approach..

All these perspectives on movement combine in an integrated, deep, and reliable practice to help restore your health, fluidity, balance, spontaneity, and grace

Movement is my nature. Ballet, at the age of five, was the first structured movement I learned. When the time was right, When the time was right, I studied physical therapy, which approaches the body from a medical perspective. To complement this medical perspective with a mind-body perspective, I completed a four-year Feldenkrais Method Training Program. I have made Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy a significant part of my practice as a Physical Therapist and Feldenkrais Practitioner, refining my skills still further.

ADULT BEGINNER BALLET

In this class, I offer a perspective on ballet based on fundamental principles that apply to all body movements.

I will teach you about the building blocks necessary for an effective, healthy, fluid, and gracious ballet practice.

Benefits include but are not limited to:

Building Strength

You may not realize how strong you must be until you're in the middle. Holding your arms in place, maintaining proper posture, and constantly engaging the leg muscles are hard work!

-

Improving Sensory-Motor Performance

The ability to balance yourself and react to external stimuli indicates how tuned your sensorimotor skills are. A meta-analysis found Ballet was a practical measure to limit age-related mental impairment such as dementia.

-

Improving Flexibility

Flexibility is not a prerequisite for Ballet; you gain it through regular practice.

-

All ages and backgrounds are welcome!

Our summer session is starting on June 7th at 11:45 am.

We'll have 5 classes and will focus on the feet and lower leg alignment.

FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION

Functional Integration is the name given to the one-on-one, hands-on work of the Feldenkrais Method. The teacher moves the student effortlessly through pattern that supports a specific function.

A typical session starts with the practitioner attentively listening to the client's complaints/ concerns. This is followed by an observation of the student’s spontaneous movement patterns.

Based on this study of the student’s somatic organization, the Feldenkrais practitioner develops a lesson plan that pinpoints unnecessary or inefficient movements that could be at the root of their difficulties.

Benefits of the practice are immediate and include:

  • Decreased anxiety and pain levels;

  • Better body image and body awareness;

  •  Improved posture, balance, flexibility, and coordination.

You will walk away from the session rejuvenated and refreshed.

Sessions last 55 minutes and cost $150

My approach combines traditional pelvic floor physical therapy and the Feldenkrais Method to work on pelvic awareness and habit reeducation. I also include Pilates and Yoga when appropriate.  A body-mind approach adds the following benefits:

  • Decreased anxiety, stress, and excessive tension

  • Better body image and body awareness
